12th Lesson in BES 2100

12th lesson which also means this is the last class for BES 2100! however, for this semester, BES 2100 have 13th lesson. 12th lesson, which is on the 2nd of September is the due date of each group's Minutes~
today we have the percentages of our Script on Lisa Baxter! the highest in the class is 15.5%~ I got 14% overall, however, that won't be the final percentage maybe. ECU lecturer may evaluate the mark again or even Linda may give us another percentage! depends on her standard~
Today one of the group in the class present their Industry Project~ excellent is the only word that i can evaluate their presentation! they really co-operate among each other! questions from the classmates they answer by helping each other! really excellent!!!!
but on the other hand, i was thinking about my own group! we done nothing as other groups are going to finish their Power Point Slides~ was thinking! what about my group~ after the class, my group members which consists of 5 membes discussed it in Campus's Study Room! was trying to bring out ideas one by one, discussing but, it seems does not work, as one of the group member were not convince by our ideas. what thinking, what to do next~
just pray and hope everything will be smooth~

11th Lesson in BES 2100

Mdm.Suma remind us about the minutes that we have to hand up next week, which is on the 2nd of September. this Minutes took 10% of our overall assessments. therefore, it still considered as key to pass this module! groups in the class almost done their Minutes, but my group.. hmm.. seems to be left behind! we are still discussing about the company's name and what kind of business we are doing~ we took another hour to discuss in more details!
Mdm.Suma would then showed us a video which have a duration of 30 minutes. this video is from Richard Branson, the chairman of Virgin Company. it is related to work and life balance which is essential to our project as it gives us idea on how to progress in the project~additional to the Video is that Richard Branson has about 50,000 employees. Not forgeting telling us about his life story and why his company is addressed as Virgin. Even that, he also tell us what he likes to do in life~
Video from Cameron Johnson is 2nd video which is shorter than the earlier video which is only 8 minutes! Cameron Johnson is a successful businessman who starts his business at the age of 9. by the age of 21, he owned a total of 12 businesses. he eventually became millionaire by the age of 21 where many of the people still studying university at this age~ additionally, this video passed discussed how Cameron Johnson motivated to be a successful businessman.
Last but not least, Mrs. Suma reminded us to submit the Minutes coming week~

10th Lesson in BES 2100

today our class held in computer room and its the first time so long that we use the computer lab for 3 hours. tired though as i sat behind the class, and couldn't really hear the lecture!
Today is the day where we have to hand in our business card and there are alot of the classmates produced interesting business cards. I ponder how they do it, because through an introduced of a friend, i used Microsoft Publisher and this is the first time I am exposed to it.
Mdm.Suma starts with a little game where we have open a website which is called Ladybug Maze. each of us have to passed at least 2 levels and then Mdm.Suma continued with youtube exercise, Belbin Team ROles Training Bite. in this video, it introduce each team roles contributions and weaknesses.
My group consists of 5 people which hold the team role of shaper, co-ordinator, plant, monitor and team builder. i supposed everyone in this team hold an important role in acting in their own role.
after all, Mdm.Suma talks about the minutes, the agenda~ Mdm.Suma would then asked us to discuss among ourselves with our group members. In the group of our own, we were discussing about what company should we plan in this industry project. we planned to do Mc.Donalds in the end, however, it might be changes in the plan our discussion is not final yet. during the discussion, one of my team member, Kelvin wrote the announcement in the minutes format straight away in Microsoft Word. He first introduced the members of the groups and what kind of trading we are planning to do.
the next discussion we will discuss it another day in the library because the class were too big and too many people talks and we are not able to concentrate discussing with our team mates. last but not least, the due date will be 2nd September 2009 which holds 10% of our assessments. frankly, this minutes is considered as our key assessments because Industry Projects itselfs stands 40% out of 100% assessments. therefore, we have to be more details and serious while working on this 2 projects~

9th Lesson in BES 2100

today is the 9th lesson by Mdm.Suma, we are asked to hand up the Script on Lisa Baxter. everyone hand up on hand without giving trouble to Mdm. Suma that we forget to do or can't finish the script.
when nearly every classmates full the class, Mdm.Suma asked us to continue the 2nd scenario on problem solving which is on 'Preserving Our Heritage'. we first read the scenario and then came out with problems that encountered in the scenario. the problem is when the books that are left to this decades are being eaten by acids and even worms destroyed the valuable books. alternative solutions is when the books are preserved by scanning them into computers. besides, some classmates also suggested to put a small piece of paper on the right bottom page. this is because everyone open the book by that side and to protect them, it is one of the way. on the other hand, we also suggested that the books are kept not in open air to ensure that the books are not exposed to all those acids and worm that may destroy the book.
evaluate the alternative is when the whole class choose the best alternatives from all. we choose scaning them into computers. however, there are still voices saying that what about if there is computer virus eating the information in the books in stead of eating by worms. at a voice, there is also a voice saying that, yes, there may be a chance where there is computer virus. but what about if we scanned into the computer and copy to different types of computers. if one computer is being destroyed by computer virus, there is another computers that are save. Therefore, we came to this problem solving.
after this problem solving exercise, Mdm.Suma introduced us to the next assessment which is minutes of meeting and industry project. althought now we don't really have the idea on how to do the project, however we still have brief ideas about it~

8th Lesson in BES 2100

Today's lesson talks about problem solving! there are 4 steps in problem solving. first will be defining the problem. which also means that recognise each problem. the second steps will be generate alternative solutions. alternative solutions is being recognise before arriving to problem solving. the third steps will be evaluate and select an alternative. which also means that choose the best alternative from all of all and evaluate the altenative. the last steps will be implement and follow up on the solutions. in this steps, it includes evaluating the success solutions. feedback is also in this steps to ensure that everything run smooth.
after that, Mdm. Suma asked us to read a scenario which is 'moving up in the rankings' and make us exercise the steps on problem solving. first we read the scenario, defined the problems and then we are asked to bring out possible solutions. then, we evaluate all alternatives, choose the best alternatives from all and which also means that we arrive to the problem solving.
another exercise that are given by Mdm.Suma is a straw. a group formed by 6 each is being asked to hold the straw with only one finger. we are asked to worked together as a team and put the straw down to the floor and bring it up again until in front of our chest. difficult eventually because the straw is too light and we cannot balance each other's finger to hold the straw. another important rule is that if any one of the team member didn't hold on the straw, then we have to start all over again. with so many ideas, in the end, we came out with an idea which is 2 people hold their fingers and we formed 3 groups ouf of 2 people each. in the end, we succeed to bring the straw down to our feet and up again.
third decision making exercise by Mdm. Suma is puzzle exercise. each 4 to 5 people ar given a group and being asked to solve the problem. first we solve among our groups and the whole class make a big group and formed a big puzzle out of all. next group to us is left behind and some of the classmates went over to help. Mdm. Suma also said that is team work and said well-done to all of us as.
Before the class end, Mdm.Suma again reminded us about the Script which is Giving Voice to Values. we are remind to hand it up next week. which is on 20% of our overall assessments.

7th Lesson in BES 2100

So moody today~ maybe this few days, the weather in Singapore is not so good! even that many were sick. coughing along the class~ makes me feel moody through out the class!
Mdm. Suma asked us to answers the questions under 'Giving Voice toValues'. Oh yes, we study values in life! rare and valuable lesson i suppose!~ 18 questions all together, but there are still sub-questions in few of the questions. Core values that we learnt today such as honesty, respect, responsibility and compassion/ fairness.
Besides this, Mdm. Suma also give us few minutes to read essay on Lisa Baxter- Developing a Voice. Reading and understanding~ this kind of scene will appear in TV drama, ponder will it happen in real life. If no, then how do all those director direct this kind of drama. If yes, then how are we suppose to handle it especially being a women when we work in social in the future! for those who went through this, it must be tough for them to go through from each minutes to days to months and even years~ how brave are them to face the reality!
On the other hand, Mdm. Suma also asked us to read on another essay which is "Is This My Place"~ this is also an interesting story where all those tycoon would donate for tax deductation. But as I know, Singapore government banned donating for tax deductation. hmm.. maybe for all those tycoon really look upon activities like this for tax deductation. For example, every $1 we donate to NKF Kidney Centre, patients inside would only get 10% of our donate money which is only 10cent they are using to cure their sickness. While all those CEO that act behind took the money to have gold tap in their house. Was wondering how can they treat all those patient this way. they really suffering when they suffer from sickness, and we as the normal people can not help anything in stead of donating to them, but the CEO just spend the money for themselves. Just hope by now, they have change the CEO to ensure that all those money that we donate are only for them, to those to really need it~
Last but not least, we are asked to write a script on Lisa Baxter which suffer from sexual harrassmentwhich due on the 12th August. 1200 to 1500 words, but right now, I still have no idea how to start it~

6th Lesson in BES 2100

It was Wednesday again and we have class with Mdm. Suma again~ when the class starts, Mdm.Suma viewed youtube website for us. it is about 'Ideas as the currency of the future (Saatchi& Saatchi)' by Kevin Roberts. which discussed about developing and implementing innovations to this modern world.
After this youtube activities, Mdm.Suma taught us four temperament by Johari Window which consists of open or free area, blind area, hidden area and unknown area. Open or free area which we ourselves and other people know about our own behaviour or action. furthermore, blind area is the behaviour or action that other people can see in stead of we ourselves. Additionally, hidden area is the behaviour that we can see ourselves, however other people cannot see the behaviour or actions. On the other hand, unknown area is when both we and other people have not discover.
Mdm.Suma would then place each paper to one corner. each of the student have to move about in the class to match themselves with the following paper. I walked around the class and i finally choose Catalyst. Also known as Idealist! person that adopt this behaviour is when they put themselves in other people's shoe. Besides this, they also look from different perspectives to make decisions. this type of people maintains healthy relationship while accepting everyone's differences. they do believe in team spirit. this type of people consists of charitable, loyal, able to differentiate right and wrong, honest, ethical and self-actualization.
We have 15 minutes break after this activities and when we are back, all of us meet in computer lab. Mdm.Suma asked us to register in www.keirsey.com/sorter/register.aspx~
students that are done doing this test is allow to go home and the results i got is Improviser. which is also known as Artisan. this type of people exercise the behaviour where they come out with alot of solutions to solve the problems.

5th Lesson in BES 2100

Stefen, Kelvin and I met up before class for lunch to ensure that we won't be late for class. After we have our lunch around the college, we went straight to class and initially we are early 1 minute. What a joke to tell others that we are early by 1 minute~
The first thing Mdm.Suma announced is our results for negotiation test last Sunday on the 5th of July. My partner, Willow and I both have 15% for this negotiation test. Is it good enough for us to pass this module I ponder~
Quite a good news for me when Mdm.Suma announced that the highest score is 15%~ That makes me ensure that I have done quite a good job in the negotiation test. In my own heart, I congratulate myself!
Soon, she mention about the precis that she asked us to summarized on the day of negotiation test. Not forgeting to do the homework, and today's lesson is linked to the precis, which is Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence developed by Goleman. Emotional Intelligence is how we control our own emotions. Whereas Social Intelligence is how we socialize with each other in the public.
She taught us about the eight types of emotions, which is anger, disgust, sadness, fear, enjoyment, love, surprise and shame. After that, she asked us to think more types of emotions such as irritating, revenge, confusion, and jaded. After this individual activity, we have a short break.
When we are back from the break, Mdm.Suma ordered us to formed a group of 2. Choose someone who we can share our secret with and my partner will be Kelvin as he is my bestest best friend in this class. Kelvin become partner A and I become partner B~ After all the groups are ready, Mdm.Suma asked all the partner A to follow her out to the room and they starts to discussed outside. All partners B sitting in the class and we can heard they laugh loudly and i wonder what is all happening outside.
When they are back, being partner B, we are called outside and Mdm.Suma starts to give instructions. We, being partner B have to try to critize partner A after they tell us a secret. When we settle down in the class, Kelvin starts to tell me a secret and I got shocked! Eventually, I tried to critized him for his secret and I felt that he feel embarassed for the secret that he had kept for decades.
After my criticism, Mdm.Suma called all partners B to go out of the class and she told us that we have to console partner A for the criticism that we have done! I tried to console him but I smell rat afterward because he forgave me so fast that I could not believe myself. I thought I was so persuasive that he would forgive me. However, after this activities end, he told me truthfully that he just told me a big fat lie secret. I was thinking, 'no wonder he could forgive me that fast for my criticism'~
After this activity, Mdm.Suma also touched abit about Script that we are going to learn how to do in the next few weeks. This is an example about the Case Study where the score is 20% which is held on the 12th August 2009~
It's around 6 and it's time to go home! Yahoo~~

4th Lesson in BES 2100

Negotiation test today!!!! Nervous, tension, scared, fearfull, excitement, worrid.. this is all my emotion.. will i able to cope with today's test?! what if i fail this test?! what will i do?! what can i do?! what am i suppose to do?!~
When I first arrived, most of them are dissussing who are their partners. and as fast as possible, i found out who is my partner. My partner is Willow.. it makes me more tension as her english is better than me and i am afraid that i am not able to follow and negotiate with her.
Slowly wait for my turn to go into the negotiation room where there is Suma and Linda sitting inside seriously giving the students mark one by one.
10.45pm and it's my turn to get ready for my negotiation test. inside the room where we need to fill the Planning Worksheet, we are given 20 minutes to fill that paper. Finish filling the paper or not, we still need to go into another room to go for the negotiation test. We prepared the negotiation early, and in the end, Willow and I wait for Mdm.Suma as the groups before us are being told off by Mdm. Suma for keeping Mdm.Suma waiting inside the room. That makes me realized that Willow and I can't be late for the negotiation test.
The negotiation test is all about production department chasing the purchasing department about the late delivery of goods. First of all, Jay and Yau great each other and then we start to negotiate. Jay which is in the purchasing department did not really agree with Yau's decision where Yau hope to go for negotiation with the delivery man alone as they have relationship as friend. Being a purchasing department, Jay really understand the responsibility being purchasing department, therefore, in the conclusion Jay and Yau went to negotiate with the supplier. We come out with this decision because we personally feel that, this is the best solution out of all, as Jay have to take care and maintain the relationship between supplier and Yau. on the other hand, Jay have to do his full responsibilities.
Soon after the test, we are allow to go home~
Personally, I wonder, how is my presentation for this negotiation test today~
What score will i get in this test.. hope to get the score as fast as possible!

3rd lesson in BES 2100

It falls on the 4th of July 2009. Kelvin and I met around 2 at Dhoby Ghaut Station and we reached early because we planned to do our other assignment! when we reached, Willow and another guy is earlier than us. we reached around 2, which is quite early as our class starts at 3.30pm.
Today is the first class with Linda, our BES ECU Lecturer. She is gorgeous, attractive as well as friendly. i wonder how old is she~
First of all, she asked us to formed a group into 4 and one become the traveller. Kelvin will be the traveller in our group. our topic will be ''invent options for mutual gains''. both party must brain-storm to understand each other's needs to solve the problem. there cannot be win-lose sitution, there must be win-win situation. there must be creativity in round. after all, another 5 traveller come one by one to our group and discussed about what are their paragraph is all about. Soon after this activity, we have a short break.
When we are all back from the break, we are asked to line up for our birthday according to our date of birth. At the same time, we are prohibited to talk and we are only allowed to use sign language which includes hand and body language. Eventually, I lined the last because my date of birth lined the last which is on the 21th of December.
Linda starts to divide us into 3 members each group. I was group with Shasha and Wang Lee. To be frank, this is the first time i talked to them and get to know them~ It was quite embarrassed but I still have to step out to talk to them as this module is important to me. This time, Shasha will be the commentator. Where as Lee and I will be the one who negotiate with each other. Lee become the Ming which is the Boss of Jamie, where i took this role. I become the employee that are not punctual to work after lunch. we try to negotiate with each other and as the results, my boss, Ming allows me to have more time for lunch and try to be more punctual in the future. on the same time, we are asked to filled up the Planning Worksheet that comprises our objectives and another party's objectives.
The second round will Lee and Sam, this round, Shasha is not our commentator anymore. Left Lee and I negotiate with each other. But eventually after the first round, we learnt how to get to know each other before we negotiate. this is to ensure that we have a smooth negotiation. Lee again become the employer and I become the employee. This case is about overload in work. Lee try to negotiate with the boss to promote himself to become Senior Associates. in the end, our conclusion is that, Sam promote Lee to become the Senior Associates as how Lee wanted.
After this round, Linda called it a day! and not forgeting to wish us good luck for our negotiation test tomorrow morning at 10am~

2nd lesson in BES 2100

Kelvin waited for me more than 20 minutes to get a partner while I am late! Im so sorry Kelvin for the waiting~ class is so full today! chaotic eventually~
We are grouped into 2 and Kelvin is my partner at first. Kelvin became the Person 1 and I became Person 2. Whole class person 1 is being called out and they have a small piece of paper on their hand each when they came back. what was that I suppose?! I still have no idea what is going on. after few minutes and its turn for person 2 to have a few minutes of meeting with lecture. piece of paper that i have stated that it's a zero-sum bargaining and person 2 have to get as much of the $2 as we can. it is also important that we get at least $1 this round!
I sat down and starts to tell any stories I like, to ensure that I can get as much coins as possible.

Second round is there and each of everyone change partner. 2nd round my partner will be Danny. Thought Danny and I have nothing much to tell story. But indeed, we have a lot to tell~
Right now, Danny is person 1 and I become person 2. he tried to negotiate while telling me stories about his birthday celebration. Whilst I told him

Last round which is third round, same partner again. DANNY!!! what to talk about?! in the end, I negotiate with him about my modules in 2nd semester like I will never see him again! hehee.. even that, he negotiate with me about his holiday back in Jakarta since he went back for last semester break!

After the 3rd round, lecture remind us that we have class next Saturday and Sunday. Sunday we will have negotiation test and I wonder what is it about as I have no experience in BES modules.

1st lesson in BES 2100

On the 17th of June 2009, it's my first lesson for BES 2100! Don't even have a rough idea on what this BES module is all about. Most of my classmates went through BES 1100, thus, at least they have an idea on what is this module about. Therefore I need to make commitment to work harder than all of them so that I can catch up in the class~

First lesson today starts around 3.15pm. When my friends and I entered the class, Mrs. Christal is in with few classmates and soon she distributed MDIS handbook. Few minutes after that, when the class is almost full, she explained the assignment information. Mrs.Christal also make us understand that it is compulsary to purchase the text book (not forgeting to take a picture of the cover page)

After that she asked use to form a group of 4 to 5 and write our personality on a piece of paper from one of our friend's point of view~ Right after that, we continue doing a test called Belkin test. The test shows that I am a Team Builder. Thinking whether it is good or bad~ Am I really a team builder?! But I don't have leadership in me.

We have break around 15 minutes and we proceed to Computer Lab. We accessed to MDIS blackboard and Mrs. Christal explained that each of us have to write blog to understand our daily life better. But before that, some of the classmates have the problem in logging into MDIS blackboard and sign up in blogger.com~

Around 6 which means we have to end our class. But before we end our class, as fast as possible, our lecturer explain about the modules, and blogs. There it goes a lecture!
